Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom
Summary: The Senior Machine Learning Expert role focuses on developing high-fidelity reasoning traces that guide AI models in complex tasks. This fully remote position is designed for experienced machine learning practitioners who will collaborate with leading research teams. The role involves authoring detailed workflows, mentoring others, and applying architectural insights to enhance model behavior. Candidates should possess significant expertise in machine learning and a strong ability to document complex problem-solving processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Author complex, high-fidelity reasoning traces that capture how an AI should plan, use tools, and make decisions across sophisticated technical tasks
- Break down intricate real-world problems into clear, logical, and well-documented step-by-step workflows
- Review and mentor reasoning trace work to ensure optimal planning, tool-use documentation, and decision-making quality
- Design data strategies that help LLMs navigate challenging, multi-step scenarios with greater reliability
- Apply senior-level architectural insight to ensure the traces you produce translate into measurably better model behavior
Key Skills:
- Experienced machine learning practitioner with significant hands-on expertise in ML, deep learning, or a closely related technical field
- Skilled at decomposing complex, ambiguous problems into structured, logical steps — and documenting them clearly
- Familiar with how large language models are evaluated, fine-tuned, and trained
- Naturally rigorous and detail-oriented, with a high bar for output quality
- Self-directed and comfortable working independently in a remote, asynchronous environment
- Prior experience with data annotation, data quality pipelines, or model evaluation systems (nice to have)
- Top-tier Kaggle competition results (Grandmaster or Master level) (nice to have)
- Familiarity with reasoning frameworks, chain-of-thought methodologies, or structured output formats for LLMs (nice to have)
- Background in AI safety, alignment research, or RLHF-adjacent workflows (nice to have)
