Summary: The role of Health and Safety Solicitor involves providing strategic legal guidance on Health and Safety law for a high-profile client on a 12-month full-time contract. The position requires managing complex regulatory matters, advising senior stakeholders, and engaging with regulatory bodies such as the Health and Safety Executive. The solicitor will also support HR teams and business leaders on sensitive health and safety issues. This role is ideal for an experienced solicitor with a strong background in Health and Safety law and regulatory investigations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage complex Health and Safety investigations, both internal and external.
- Act as primary legal contact for HSE interactions, including inspections, enforcement actions, and correspondence.
- Provide proactive legal advice on regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, and incident response.
- Support HR and business functions in managing health and safety concerns, including employee-related matters and workplace incidents.
- Draft and review legal documentation, guidance notes, and internal policies to ensure robust compliance with H&S legislation.
- Deliver training and guidance to internal stakeholders on relevant H&S legal responsibilities.
- Monitor changes in H&S regulation and advise on implications for the business.
Key Skills:
- Qualified Solicitor (England & Wales) with a minimum of 5 years’ PQE in Health and Safety law or Regulatory investigations.
- Proven experience advising or defending clients facing HSE investigations or enforcement actions.
- Strong understanding of UK Health and Safety legislation and related employment/regulatory frameworks.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to work across functions (including HR and operations).
- Experience working in-house or as an external advisor to complex organisations is highly desirable.
- Ability to work autonomously and manage a varied caseload in a fast-paced environment.
