Senior Java Developer

Job Summary

Our Client is seeking an experienced Senior Java Application Developer to develop Java applications and web services. The developer will collaborate with application developers, engineers, and subject matter experts to create new applications and replace legacy systems serving the public and internal staff.

Strong Java web framework experience is required, with preference for EJB and JSF. The position is remote, with occasional onsite presence as needed. The assignment may be extended depending on funding and project requirements.

Required Technical Skills

• Java (15 Years): Core Java, Java EE (JEE), Java Persistence API (JPA), and Java Persistence Query Language (JPQL).
• PostgreSQL (10 Years): SQL, PL/pgSQL, database queries, and data management.
• AWS (5 Years): Understanding of cloud development processes and Amazon Web Services.
• JSF / PrimeFaces (5 Years): Experience with JavaServer Faces and PrimeFaces.
• Java RESTful Web Services (5 Years): Development and integration of RESTful APIs.
• Accessibility: WCAG compatibility knowledge and application.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Maven.
• GitHub and Agile development methodologies.
• JUnit, Arquillian, or similar testing frameworks.
• JIRA.
• Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment (CI/CD).
• Database schema design.
• Java automated testing using Selenium.
• Application load testing with Apache JMeter or similar tools.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain Java applications and web services for DHHS.
• Develop new applications and modernize legacy applications using Java web frameworks, preferably EJB and JSF.
• Enhance existing Java web applications based on user requirements.
• Build RESTful APIs integrated with PostgreSQL databases.
• Implement authentication using OAuth2, OpenAM, or similar standards.
• Develop and support CI/CD pipelines in AWS.
• Ensure compliance with agency data security and encryption standards.
• Analyze business requirements and translate them into scalable application solutions.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend architectural improvements.
• Collaborate with developers, engineers, and subject matter experts.
• Work independently in a remote environment while managing deliverables and timelines.
