ROLE OVERVIEW
For a large-scale, heavily customized Adobe Commerce (Magento) platform with deep integrations across ERP, OMS, PIM, CRM, subscription billing, tax, and search/marketing systems, supporting multiple product lines and subscription-based offerings.
As a Senior Full-Stack Engineer on the Design & Experience team, you will own the quality, performance, and usability of the customer-facing storefront.
This role blends strong frontend craftsmanship with the backend skills needed to connect new UI experiences to Adobe Commerce and its surrounding ecosystem of integrated systems.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and build frontend enhancements to the Adobe Commerce storefront, improving usability, performance, accessibility, and visual consistency.
- Build and maintain connectivity between frontend experiences and backend services — Adobe Commerce APIs, middleware, and third-party integrations.
- Collaborate closely with UX/UI designers to translate wireframes and design systems into responsive, production-quality components.
- Optimize storefront performance (Core Web Vitals, page load, checkout conversion) across desktop and mobile, using caching (Redis), CDN (Fastly or similar), and search/indexing (Elasticsearch/OpenSearch) best practices.
- Implement and maintain component libraries/design systems used across the storefront, backed by solid unit and functional test coverage (TDD mindset).
- Partner with backend engineers to define clean API contracts for new frontend capabilities, and support CI/CD pipelines for frontend deployments.
- Participate in A/B testing and iterative experience improvements driven by analytics and customer feedback; mentor other engineers on frontend architecture and best practices.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 5–8 years of professional software engineering experience, including significant hands-on work with Adobe Commerce / Magento 2.x (Open Source or Commerce edition) in an enterprise environment.
- Strong PHP development skills, including Magento's module/plugin architecture, dependency injection, and service contracts.
- Proven experience integrating Adobe Commerce with external systems via REST/GraphQL/SOAP APIs, message queues (RabbitMQ), and webhooks.
- Solid understanding of relational databases (MySQL/MariaDB) including query optimization for high-volume catalog and order data.
- Strong commitment to Test-Driven Development (TDD) — comfortable writing and maintaining unit, integration, and functional tests (PHPUnit; MFTF familiarity a plus) as a standard part of the development workflow.
- Experience with Git, Composer, CI/CD pipelines, and containerized development (Docker) in a team setting, with solid code review discipline and adherence to Adobe Commerce coding standards.
- Familiarity with cloud-hosted Adobe Commerce environments (Adobe Commerce Cloud, AWS, or Azure), along with supporting infrastructure such as Redis caching, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, and Fastly or similar CDN.
- Comfortable working in Agile/Scrum teams — participating in sprint planning, estimation, and stand-ups, and collaborating cross-functionally with QA, product, and other engineers.
- Strong hands-on experience with modern JavaScript frameworks (React or Vue) in the context of Adobe Commerce — e.g., PWA Studio, Venia, or a headless/composable storefront.
- Deep CSS/LESS/Sass skills and experience building responsive, accessible (WCAG) interfaces.
- Experience integrating storefront UI with backend/middleware services via REST or GraphQL, with solid coverage of automated frontend/functional tests (Jest, Cypress, or MFTF).
- Working knowledge of frontend build tooling (Webpack, Vite) and performance profiling tools (Lighthouse, WebPageTest, New Relic, or Blackfire).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with design systems/component libraries (Storybook or similar).
- Familiarity with headless/composable commerce architectures and API-led connectivity (API gateways, BFF patterns, microservices).
- Experience with personalization or A/B testing tools (e.g., Adobe Target, Optimizely).
- Background working with cross-functional design teams in a large enterprise setting.
- Adobe Commerce Developer Professional or Expert Certification.
- Exposure to microservices architecture and API-led integration patterns.
- Experience with performance monitoring and profiling tools such as New Relic or Blackfire.
- Comfort mentoring other developers and contributing to engineering best practices and coding standards beyond your own feature work.
LOCATION, WORK AUTHORIZATION & ENGAGEMENT
- Location: Remote-friendly with regular overlap for standups, sprint ceremonies, and cross-team collaboration during US business hours.
- Background check and client-specific security/compliance screening required prior to start.
