Summary: The Senior Engineer for Observability & Real-Time Monitoring will focus on enhancing backend services through instrumentation and integration with the FOCUS framework. This role involves managing AWS services and building dashboards for monitoring service health, as well as implementing alerting mechanisms and collaborating with various teams. The position requires a strong background in observability and DevOps engineering, with a focus on security and scalability. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in relevant technologies and practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Instrument backend services using OpenTelemetry for logs, traces, and metrics.
- Integrate observability data pipelines with the FOCUS framework.
- Configure and manage AWS OpenSearch, QuickSight, and Kinesis Data Streams/KDA.
- Build and deploy QuickSight dashboards for service health monitoring.
- Implement near real-time alerting and automated escalation mechanisms.
- Extend monitoring to additional services (e.g., Catalog-air).
- Define performance baselines and set up anomaly detection rules.
- Collaborate with backend and DevOps teams to ensure secure and scalable observability pipelines.
- Document runbooks, observability architecture, and onboarding guides.
Key Skills:
- 5+ years of experience in backend or DevOps engineering focused on observability.
- Strong hands-on expertise in OpenTelemetry instrumentation and integrations.
- Proficient in AWS services: OpenSearch, CloudWatch, Kinesis Data Streams & Analytics, Lambda, QuickSight.
- Experience in log/metric processing and visualization pipelines.
- Solid scripting experience (Node.js, Python, or TypeScript).
- Experience with distributed systems and microservices monitoring.
