Summary: The Senior CPE/Device Provisioning Network Engineer is responsible for providing expert consulting and technical guidance for the provisioning, management, and reliability of customer-premises equipment across various services. This role emphasizes the application of Site Reliability Engineering principles to enhance platform availability and operational efficiency. The engineer will collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure reliable device activation and management flows. Independent discretion in methods and approaches is expected to achieve deliverables effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert consulting and technical guidance for CPE provisioning, device management, and reliability platforms across broadband, voice, video, Wi-Fi, and business services.
- Engineer, support, optimize, and maintain provisioning platforms, device management systems, firmware management processes, and activation flows for CPE and access devices.
- Contribute to troubleshooting of complex provisioning flows involving DHCP, TFTP, DNS, NTP/ToD, TR-069, TR-181, USP/TR-369, SNMP, RADIAAA, HTTP/HTTPS, APIs, and related protocols.
- Support provisioning and lifecycle management for devices such as DOCSIS cable modems, fiber ONTs, residential gateways, Wi-Fi routers, voice eMTAs/ATAs, set-top boxes, and managed business CPE.
- Partner with OSS/BSS, inventory, order management, billing, service activation, and workflow automation teams to ensure accurate and reliable service provisioning.
- Support development and recommend improvements for engineering standards for device configuration templates, service profiles, firmware rules, boot files, DHCP scopes/options, device management policies, and provisioning logic.
- Support root-cause analysis for failed activations, incorrect service profiles, firmware issues, device registration problems, communication failures, DHCP/TFTP/configuration errors, and configuration drift.
- Support integration between provisioning platforms and network elements such as CMTS/CCAP, OLTs, device platforms, DHCP servers, TFTP/HTTP servers, DNS, AAA, monitoring systems, and OSS platforms.
- Develop and improve automation, scripts, dashboards, APIs, alarms, and operational tools to increase provisioning accuracy, reduce manual intervention, and accelerate issue resolution.
- Apply Site Reliability Engineering practices to improve the availability, resiliency, scalability, and operational maturity of provisioning and device management platforms.
- Define and monitor service-level indicators and reliability targets for critical provisioning flows, device activation, firmware compliance, device registration, platform availability, API performance, and service restoration.
- Improve observability through dashboards, logs, metrics, traces, synthetic checks, alarms, and event correlation across provisioning, DHCP, TFTP, DNS, AAA, OSS/BSS, and network systems.
- Develop automation to reduce operational toil, prevent repeat incidents, improve self-service capabilities, and accelerate detection, diagnosis, and remediation.
- Provide post-incident analysis and recommendations for provisioning and device management platform issues.
- Support capacity planning, performance tuning, redundancy validation, disaster recovery readiness, and change-risk reduction for production platforms.

- Drive continuous improvement of deployment, rollback, validation, monitoring, and operational readiness processes for platform changes, firmware rollouts, and new service launches.
