Summary: An established consumer-facing technology business is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer with expertise in Kotlin and Golang to enhance high-scale Back End services for a large international user base. The role involves designing, building, and improving reliable Back End services in a fast-paced, product-focused environment. Candidates should be comfortable with autonomy and transitioning from legacy systems to modern, cloud-native services. This position is remote-first with occasional office visits in London and is classified as outside IR35.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and improve reliable Back End services.
- Collaborate closely with product, mobile, platform, and engineering teams.
- Translate ambiguous requirements into clear technical direction.
- Lead technical work from discovery through delivery.
Key Skills:
- Strong Back End engineering experience with Kotlin.
- Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform.

- Strong communication and ownership mindset.
- PHP exposure, especially within Legacy or hybrid environments.
- Golang exposure.
- Experience supporting Legacy-to-modern platform transitions.
- Cloud architecture, observability, reliability, and cost optimisation.
- Mentoring or helping teams adopt modern Back End practices.

An established consumer-facing technology business is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to support the continued evolution of high-scale Back End services used by a large international user base.
This role would suit an experienced contractor who is comfortable working in Kotlin-heavy Back End environments, can operate with autonomy, and is confident helping teams move from Legacy systems toward more modern, cloud-native services.
The role
You will be involved in designing, building, and improving reliable Back End services, working closely with product, mobile, platform, and engineering teams. The environment is fast-moving, product-focused, and requires someone who can turn ambiguous requirements into clear technical direction.
Key experience
- Strong Back End engineering experience with Kotlin
- Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform
