Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and submit responses to appeals within statutory deadlines.
  • Facilitate early resolution, working to resolve disputes through mediation and negotiation where possible.
  • Represent the Local Authority by preparing for and attending tribunal hearings.

Key Skills:

  • Strong understanding of current SEND legislation including the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice 2015.
  • Significant experience of managing SEND Tribunal appeals for a Local Authority.
  • Previous experience in representing the Local Authority at SEND tribunal hearings.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise own workload, meet deadlines and maintain accurate records.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to draft clear and accurate written submissions.
  • Able to work well collaboratively with parents/carers, schools, health professionals, and social care teams.

SEND Tribunal Officer

£400 per day

Spencer Clarke Group are seeking a number of experienced Tribunal Officers to join the SEND Team of a Midlands Local Authority. The SEND Tribunal Officers will support the Local Authority with the fair, timely resolution of disputes relating to educational provision for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

The SEND Tribunal Officer will work closely with children and young people with SEND, their parents and carers, schools and partner agencies to support mediation and early resolution, reducing the need for formal tribunal hearings wherever possible.

Essential Requirements:

  • Strong understanding of current SEND legislation including the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice 2015.
  • Significant experience of managing SEND Tribunal appeals for a Local Authority.
  • Previous experience in representing the Local Authority at SEND tribunal hearings.
