Summary: The Safety Engineer role involves developing and conducting systems safety activities primarily for a value stream in a leading science and engineering company focused on defense, security, and aerospace sectors. The position requires conducting software hazard analysis, deriving safety requirements, and engaging in agile development practices. The engineer will also lead safety documentation and analysis, chair working groups, and support compliance activities. This role is mainly remote with a duration of 6 months and falls inside IR35 regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and conduct systems safety activities to support a value stream.
  • Report component level safety analysis to the P-AIC Safety Manager.
  • Conduct Software Hazard Analysis (SwHA) and derive safety requirements.
  • Assist in the development and update of the Part 2 Safety and Environmental Case Report (SECR).
  • Prepare for and chair sub-system level Hazard Working Groups.
  • Attend Safety Panels and Integration Working Groups as required.
  • Lead or contribute to documentation and safety analysis.
  • Interpret results of testing activities to satisfy safety requirements.
  • Promote best practices and mentor colleagues.
  • Engage in agile development and support security, safety, and compliance activities.

Key Skills:

  • Systems safety practitioner.
  • Software Safety experience.
  • Agile safety experience.
  • SECR and Hazard Log development.
  • Knowledge of functional safety standards (ED-153, ED-215, ED-76a).
  • Confident in stakeholder management and engagement.
  • Experience chairing Safety Working Groups.
