Are you a professional working in pavement engineering, roadway inspection, or transportation infrastructure interested in helping shape the future of AI? Advanced AI systems are increasingly being developed to analyze infrastructure conditions, interpret technical documentation, and support planning and maintenance decisions. High-quality training data informed by real-world expertise is essential to ensure these systems reflect practical field conditions and engineering standards. This project relies on your knowledge to help train and evaluate next-generation AI models. In this project, you will apply your experience in civil, transportation, or materials engineering—particularly in pavement-focused roles—to review and evaluate AI outputs related to roadway conditions, inspection workflows, and infrastructure assessment. This may include evaluating scenarios involving pavement distress identification, surface condition analysis, maintenance prioritization, and interpretation of survey results. A key focus of the work involves knowledge of Pavement Condition Index (PCI) surveys, inspection methodologies, and the terminology and standards commonly used in roadway assessment. On a typical day, you may review AI-generated assessments, validate whether pavement conditions and defect classifications are realistic, check interpretations of inspection data, and provide feedback on where models misinterpret field conditions or engineering reasoning. You may also help clarify edge cases, such as differentiating between similar distress types or identifying how environmental, traffic, and material factors influence pavement performance. This project is well suited for professionals with hands-on experience as pavement engineers, civil or transportation engineers, Department of Transportation specialists, roadway inspectors, or highway maintenance professionals. Experience conducting or reviewing PCI surveys, working with inspection reports, or participating in roadway maintenance planning is highly valuable. Clear written communication and the ability to explain technical reasoning in a structured way are essential. No prior AI or technical background is required. Training and project guidelines will be provided. What matters most is your practical field or engineering experience, attention to detail, and willingness to thoughtfully engage with technical scenarios. We offer a pay range of $6 to $65 per hour, with the exact rate determined after evaluating your experience, expertise, and geographic location. Final offer amounts may vary from the pay range listed above. As a contractor, you will supply a secure computer and high-speed internet; company-sponsored benefits such as health insurance and PTO do not apply.
