Summary: The Risk & Compliance Manager role at Bspoke Insurance Group is a 6-month fixed-term contract with a strong possibility of extension, focused on fostering a culture of risk awareness and regulatory compliance within the organization. Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver the Compliance Monitoring Plan, ensuring timely, high-quality reviews aligned to business priorities and risk appetite.
- Lead first line monitoring activities across internal teams and external distributors, ensuring effective oversight of conduct, controls, and customer outcomes.
- Own and manage the Risk Event process—including logging, root cause analysis, escalation, and resolution of breaches.
- Ensure compliance with FCA requirements, Consumer Duty, SMCR, GDPR, and financial crime regulations, maintaining up-to-date knowledge and advising the business accordingly.
- Prepare and submit accurate regulatory reports and returns for Senior Management, Group Compliance, and third parties.
- Liaise with Group Compliance to assess the impact of FCA communications and coordinate appropriate business responses.
- Facilitate internal and external audits and thematic reviews, ensuring effective follow-up and business readiness.
- Lead monthly Risk & Compliance Committee meetings, providing insight, updates, and challenge to the Management Team.
- Promote and embed a strong culture of compliance and customer-centricity across the business, aligned with company values.
- Oversee compliance sign-off for financial promotions, customer communications, and changes to customer journeys.
- Monitor and report on compliance KPIs, focusing on continuous improvement and delivering good customer outcomes.
- Conduct reviews and audits to assess the effectiveness of compliance standards and investigate emerging risks or trends.
- Support Product Reviews, Fair Value Assessments, and Broker Pack updates to ensure compliance with product governance requirements.
- Collaborate with Operations and Underwriting to strengthen oversight of Appointed Representatives, distributors, and control frameworks.
Key Skills:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a compliance role and 3 years in a regulated financial services environment, ideally within general insurance.
- Strong working knowledge of FCA regulations, including Consumer Duty, SMCR, and related frameworks.
- High level of attention to detail, with a strong focus on accurate record-keeping and maintaining robust audit trails.
- Excellent time management and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
- Experience of analysing data and producing MI to support reporting and business decision-making.
- Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the confidence to influence at all levels.
- Proven ability to lead, motivate and mentor colleagues, and work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners.
- Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) Certification, or willingness to work towards it (desirable).
- Prior experience in a general insurance or MGA setting (desirable).
- Exposure to Appointed Representative frameworks or oversight of third-party distributors (desirable).
- Experience of delivering or supporting compliance training within a business (desirable).
- Familiarity with regulatory returns processes, including FCA Regulated Data submissions and Fair Value Assessments (desirable).
