Summary: The RF & Wi-Fi Planning & Optimisation Engineer will support a leading technology consultancy in delivering an RF and Wi-Fi project for a financial services organization. The role involves developing network plans, conducting site surveys, and ensuring regulatory compliance while utilizing various RF planning tools. Candidates should possess significant experience in RF planning and optimization, along with strong analytical and communication skills. This position is a 6-month contract with potential for extension, classified as outside IR35.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop comprehensive RF & Wi-Fi network plans for optimal coverage, capacity, and quality.
- Utilize RF planning tools for site selection, frequency planning, and interference analysis.
- Perform detailed RF propagation modeling and analysis for network optimization.
- Conduct site surveys and audits to assess and enhance network performance.
- Monitor network performance, identify issues, and implement solutions for optimization.
- Ensure compliance with local and international regulations and prepare necessary documentation.
- Prepare detailed technical documentation and reports on RF planning strategies and recommendations.
Key Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or related field; Master's preferred.
- 5–10 years of experience in RF planning and optimization.
- Strong knowledge of wireless network design principles and tools.
- Proficiency in RF planning software such as Atoll, Planet, or iBwave.
- Proficiency in Wi-Fi planning tools like Ekahau AI Pro, NetSpot, AirMagnet Planner, and Acrylic WiFi Heatmaps.
- Familiarity with 2G/3G/4G/5G/Wi-Fi technologies and protocols.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Industry certifications such as CRFE or WCET are advantageous.

- Network Design & Planning: Develop comprehensive RF & Wi-FI network plans to achieve optimal coverage, capacity, and quality across utilising various wireless technologies across a global enterprise/campus environment
- Utilise RF planning tools like Atoll, Planet, and NetAct for site selection, frequency planning, and interference analysis
- Utilise tools like Ekahau AI Pro, NetSpot, AirMagnet Planner, and Acrylic WiFi Heatmaps for Wi-FI planning
- Coverage & Capacity Analysis: Perform detailed RF propagation modeling and prediction for system planning. Analyze and interpret RF data to create actionable insights for network optimization
- Site Surveys & Audits: Conduct site surveys to assess and enhance network performance. Perform TSSR surveys and audits to ensure compliance with design specifications
- Optimization & Troubleshooting: Monitor network performance, identify issues such as low coverage areas or high interference, and implement solutions to enhance user experience and network efficiency
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure network plans comply with local and international regulations and standards. Prepare and submit necessary documentation to regulatory authorities
- Documentation & Reporting: Prepare detailed technical documentation and reports outlining RF planning strategies, designs, and optimization recommendations. Generate RF engineering-related reports as required
Qualifications & Skills
- Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field. A Master's degree in RF Engineering or related specialization is preferred.
- Experience: Typically 5–10 years of experience in RF planning and optimization. Experience with mobile network operators, equipment vendors, or consulting firms is advantageous.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of wireless network design principles and tools
- Proficiency in RF planning software such as Atoll, Planet, or iBwave
- Proficiency in Wi-Fi planning using tools such as Ekahau AI Pro, NetSpot, AirMagnet Planner, and Acrylic WiFi Heatmaps
- Familiarity with 2G/3G/4G/5G/Wi-Fi network technologies and protocols
- Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to analyze and interpret RF data for network optimization
- Communication Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively in a team environment and present technical findings to stakeholders
- Certifications: Industry certifications such as Certified RF Engineer (CRFE), RF Engineering Certification, or Wireless Communications Engineering Technologies (WCET) are advantageous
This is a 6 month outside IR35 contract with scope to renew for c.24 months. Only applicants from within the UK (or with the ability to work in the UK) will be considered.
