Release Train Engineer

Posted 1 day ago by SAI Systems Intl., Inc.

Job Description

The Release Train Engineer (RTE) is a servant leader and Client Ways of Working change agent who enables ART execution and outcomes by optimizing flow, fostering alignment, and driving relentless improvement. At Client, the RTE partners closely with Product, Technology, and Business leaders to help teams deliver meaningful consumer and business value with speed, quality, and predictability.

The RTE has end-to-end accountability for facilitating and coaching a moderately to high complex Agile Release Train (ART). This role ensures that SAFe events, practices, and artifacts are applied pragmatically—focused on value delivery rather than process compliance. The RTE operates with a high degree of autonomy, exercising sound judgment, adapting quickly to change, and addressing systemic impediments across teams, value streams, and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

ART Leadership & Flow Optimization

Serves as the ART conductor, enabling effective use of SAFe principles, ceremonies, and toolsets to optimize flow across multiple Agile teams.

Orchestrates and synchronizes program-level events and execution, maintaining cadence and alignment across teams, products, and dependencies.

Partners with Product Management, Solution Management, Product Owners, and Technical Leadership to ensure alignment between strategy, priorities, and delivery.

PI Planning & Program Execution

Facilitates PI Planning readiness through Continuous Exploration, enabling clear Vision, Roadmap, and Backlog alignment.

Plans and facilitates Pre-PI, PI Planning, Post-PI, and Inspect & Adapt events to promote transparency, learning, and execution confidence.

Ensures ART health through the effective use of metrics, dashboards, and flow-based measures that highlight delivery outcomes and improvement opportunities.

Coaching, Mentorship & Culture

Actively coaches leaders, Product Managers, Architects, Scrum Masters, Product Owners, technical teams, and business partners in Lean Agile principles, systems thinking, and SAFe practices.

Fosters a culture of psychological safety, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Encourages collaboration among teams, System and Solution Architects, and Engineering to support technical alignment and sustainable delivery.

Improvement, Risk & Dependency Management

Identifies, escalates, and helps resolve cross-team dependencies, risks, and systemic impediments impacting value delivery.

Takes ownership of improvement items resulting from Inspect & Adapt and Problem Solving Workshops. Helps teams refine and mature value streams to improve predictability, throughput, and business outcomes.

Tools, Enablement & Operational Excellence

Enables effective adoption and use of ART tooling (e.g., Jira Align, Azure DevOps) to improve visibility, alignment, and decision-making.

Partners with the Agility Enablement Hub to continuously improve ART execution and Lean Agile maturity.

Supports Communities of Practice and promotes Built-In Quality and modern engineering practices.

Decision Making & Autonomy

Makes decisions on moderately complex issues using independent judgment within established policies and practices.

Manages priorities and timelines for own body of work while adapting to evolving ART and organizational needs.
