Summary: The role of Technical Product Owner involves leading the discovery and delivery preparation for a Tax Service within a cutting-edge technology company. This position requires effective collaboration between mobile teams, backend systems, and external partners to ensure compliance and clarity in product development. The successful candidate will manage complex projects and facilitate alignment across various teams to launch a Minimum Viable Product (MVP). This is a remote contract position with an immediate start and a duration of 3 months.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead product discovery and define project scope and functionality.
- Research and collaborate with third-party HMRC approved software solutions.
- Own the MVP roadmap and user flows for a hybrid solution.
- Translate tax compliance requirements and API constraints into actionable backlogs.
- Work with compliance/legal advisors and tax consultants for product validation.
- Collaborate with mobile, backend, design, QA, and back-office teams for cohesive delivery.
- Coordinate with outsourced partners for escalation and support flows.
- Define technical and product requirements with engineering and other stakeholders.
- Facilitate alignment and unblock ambiguity in a fast-paced environment.
- Prepare for launch and support UAT/go-live plans.
- Support testing and validation processes to ensure compliance before release.

Daily Contract Rate: Negotiable (depending on depth of experience) Contract Length: 3 Months + Remote working, Immediate Start
DESCRIPTION: We’re looking for an experienced Technical Product Owner to lead discovery and delivery prep for a Tax Service. You’ll be the bridge between the mobile team, backend systems, external partners, and stakeholders — translating complexity into clarity so the company can ship confidently and compliantly.
What You’ll Own:
- Lead product discovery : define what the company’s building, why, and how it will work across mobile, backend, and offline support.
- Research and work with third-party HMRC approved software solutions.
- Own the MVP roadmap and user flows for a hybrid solution (in-app feature + offline ops) ensuring alignment with the company’s overall vision and customer needs.
- Translate tax compliance requirements and 3rd-party API constraints into actionable backlogs.
- Work closely with compliance/legal advisors and tax consultants to validate product decisions and ensure alignment with HMRC requirements.
- Collaborate across mobile (Flutter), backend (.NET), Product Designer, QA Engineer and back-office teams to ensure a cohesive delivery plan.
- Coordinate with outsourced partners to define escalation, submission, and support flows.
- Define technical and product requirements in partnership with engineering, QA, Product Design, SLT, and sector consultants.
- Be a force for clarity in a startup-paced team: facilitate alignment, unblock ambiguity, and move fast.
- Prepare for launch: align cross-functional teams, ensure dev readiness, and support UAT/go-live plans
- Support the testing and validation process to ensure the feature works smoothly and meets all compliance requirements before release.
About You:
- You’ve led technical product delivery in fast-paced, cross-functional environments. (Previous experience of a focus on regulatory or financial features is a bonus).
- You can demonstrate your ability to manage complex multi-faceted projects.
- Experience working with mobile apps (Flutter experience a bonus) and third-party integrations.
- Solid grasp of backend ecosystems: you speak microservices, APIs, CI/CD, and databases comfortably.
- Comfortable working with external vendors, internal devs, and SLT to drive delivery outcomes.
- Pragmatic and delivery-focused — you know how to get things over the line, even with constraints.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, agile, user experience, data analysis skills
The Company Tech Stack (for context):
- Mobile : Flutter
- Backend : .NET, C#, SQL, RESTful APIs, Azure DevOps
- Frontend : Angular, JavaScript, HTML/CSS
- Infrastructure : Microservices, CI/CD pipelines
Your Mission: Launch a working MVP of the company’s MTD feature in the app — a standalone but integrated service that connects users, HMRC, and the back-office team. You’ll shape the product, align teams, and help the business go live with confidence.
