Summary: The Principal Temporary Works Engineer will lead temporary works engineering activities for a specialist design team on a long-term contract, focusing on complex projects within the UK infrastructure sector. This role emphasizes technical leadership, design assurance, and collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure safe and compliant design solutions. The position requires a strong understanding of engineering standards and practices, along with a commitment to health, safety, and environmental performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead temporary works design activities for assigned projects and proposals.
- Prepare, supervise, check, and approve engineering design documentation in line with company procedures.
- Ensure all engineering work complies with relevant standards, legislation, and project specifications.
- Manage technical quality while delivering work within agreed budgets and schedules.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards and legislative requirements.
- Apply company and client/project policies and procedures throughout design activities.
- Support project needs through short-term UK and occasional overseas visits, including client liaison, surveys, statutory engagement, construction support, and third-party design oversight.
- Champion strong Health, Safety, and Environmental performance across all activities.
Key Skills:
- Degree, HNC, HND, or equivalent in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer (CEng) with substantial temporary works design experience.
- Expertise in working platforms, cofferdams, retaining walls, scaffold/access systems, demolition engineering, formwork/falsework, steelwork, and concrete design.
- Strong practical understanding of construction methods with a pragmatic approach to engineering challenges.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative team mindset.
