Summary: The Principal Temporary Works Engineer will lead temporary works engineering activities for a specialist design team on complex projects, ensuring safe and compliant design solutions. This long-term contract role requires strong technical leadership and collaboration with various stakeholders. The position is remote with required site and office visits, focusing on delivering high-integrity design and construction solutions. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead temporary works design activities for assigned projects and proposals.
  • Prepare, supervise, check, and approve engineering design documentation in line with company procedures.
  • Ensure all engineering work complies with relevant standards, legislation, and project specifications.
  • Manage technical quality while delivering work within agreed budgets and schedules.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards and legislative requirements.
  • Apply company and client/project policies and procedures throughout design activities.
  • Support project needs through short-term UK and occasional overseas visits, including client liaison, surveys, statutory engagement, construction support, and third-party design oversight.
  • Champion strong Health, Safety, and Environmental performance across all activities.

Key Skills:

  • Degree, HNC, HND, or equivalent in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer (CEng) with substantial temporary works design experience.
  • Expertise in working platforms, cofferdams, retaining walls, scaffold/access systems, demolition engineering, formwork/falsework, steelwork, and concrete design.
  • Strong practical understanding of construction methods with a pragmatic approach to engineering challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative team mindset.
