Summary: The Principal Machine Learning Engineer will lead the technical direction for structural biology models within a drug discovery B2B platform. This fully remote role requires expertise in machine learning, particularly in training transformer-based models for protein structure prediction. The engineer will mentor team members and influence key decisions regarding model architecture and deployment strategies. The position is contract-based for 6-12 months and offers a competitive daily rate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define approaches for data preprocessing, selection, and benchmarking for training tasks involving protein structures and multimodal biological datasets.
  • Design and implement model extensions for predicting protein complex interactions and binding affinities.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to team members on structural biology modeling projects.
  • Lead the technical strategy for machine learning applications in structural biology.
  • Influence decisions on model architecture, data infrastructure, and deployment strategies.
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure models meet practical scientific needs.
  • Contribute to scientific publications or open-source projects.
  • Develop and maintain scalable, production-ready machine learning systems.

Key Skills:

  • PhD or equivalent experience in machine learning, computational biology, or structural biology.
  • Extensive experience in building and training transformer-based models using frameworks like PyTorch.
  • Understanding of data challenges in structural biology and ability to design scalable workflows.
  • Experience delivering machine learning systems at scale, including CI/CD pipelines and model versioning.
  • Proficiency with modern MLOps tools and infrastructure, such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Adept at navigating complex technical environments and executing ambitious modeling initiatives.
  • Understanding of how structural biology models contribute to drug discovery.
