Summary: The Principal HV Plant Engineer role involves overseeing and approving designs for high voltage (HV) plant projects, particularly within transmission and distribution sectors. The position requires extensive experience in HV engineering, with a focus on high voltage transmission projects and stakeholder management. The role is primarily remote but includes site visits as necessary, with an expected start in early July.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing and approving designs for DNO projects.
  • Leading design review meetings and providing technical ownership on project delivery.
  • Acting as the primary technical point of contact for HV Plant design.
  • Supporting HAZID and engineering risk assessments.
  • Managing stakeholder relationships with clients, contractors, and project teams.

Key Skills:

  • 10+ years experience in HV Plant Engineering within Transmission & Distribution projects.
  • Experience working on 132kV, 275kV, and 400kV transmission projects.
  • Strong understanding of substations, transformers, switchgear, and associated HV infrastructure.
  • Proven experience reviewing, assessing, and approving contractor design submissions.
  • Experience working to DNO engineering standards.
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards professional registration (desirable).
  • Experience producing, reviewing, and approving designs for National Grid projects (desirable).
  • Strong stakeholder management skills.

Essential Skillset:

  • 10+ years experience in HV Plant Engineering within Transmission & Distribution projects
  • Experience working on 132kV, 275kV and 400kV transmission projects
  • Strong understanding of substations, transformers, switchgear and associated HV infrastructure
  • Proven experience reviewing, assessing and approving contractor design submissions
  • Experience working to DNO engineering standards
  • Proven experience in leading design review meetings and providing technical ownership on project delivery
  • Proven experience in being the primary technical point of contact for HV Plant design
  • Experience in supporting HAZID and engineering risk assessments
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with clients, contractors and project teams

Desirable:

  • Chartered Engineer or working towards professional registration
  • Experience producing, reviewing and approving designs for National Grid projects
  • Currently hold or previously held National Grid TP141 Design Assurance Engineer authorisation
  • Currently hold or previously held National Grid BP137 Contractor Design Approval Engineer
