Summary: The Principal Engineer - Design Zone Integration role is primarily focused on leading engineering activities within the CSC Programme, ensuring successful delivery of the Design Zone Integration process. This position requires a strong technical background and the ability to liaise effectively between engineering teams and senior stakeholders. The role emphasizes problem-solving, team leadership, and the implementation of new working methods to enhance decision-making and expertise recognition. The successful candidate will also be responsible for maintaining quality and cost objectives throughout the engineering process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define strategy and execute workscope for stage 1 and stage 2 engineering Zx programme.
- Provide specialist engineering expertise to coordinate engineering activities within the CSC Programme.
- Interface with delivery domains to resolve cross-domain technical issues.
- Support delivery of detail design engineering enablers.
- Liaise with BAE IPT leads to ensure design assurance is maintained.
- Lead cultural change and new ways of working within the team.
- Work with multi-disciplinary engineering resources to deliver engineering work and services.
- Practice maintenance and modification engineering processes in response to technical developments.
- Conduct complex technical analyses and prepare reports with recommendations.
- Support design development in line with specifications and quality standards.
- Lead investigations into operational problems and develop solutions.
- Deliver lessons learned from the T26 Zonal Engineering Maturity process.
- Maintain configuration control of the ZX process with the Engineering Change Manager.
- Build strong relationships with key stakeholders.

Role:
The Principle Engineer - Design Zone Integration reports directly to the Engineering Manager - Design Zone Integration. This role will define the strategy and execute the workscope required to ensure successful delivery of the stage 1 and stage 2 engineering Zx programme
Provide specialist engineering expertise to organise and co-ordinate significant aspects of engineering activity within the CSC Programme to ensure defined objectives of the Design Zone Integration process are achieved whilst continually maintaining quality and cost.
Interface closely with delivery domains to identify and resolve cross domain technical issues affecting progress through the zonal reviews. The role will be a key cross-domain engineering point of contact for specified design zones.
Support the delivery of detail design engineering enablers.
Liaise with the BAE IPT leads and central detail design teams to ensure design assurance is met and maintained for the ZX process.
Lead a cultural change agenda through driving new ways of working which empowers decision making and recognises expertise and defer authority to those best suited to make the decision.
Core Duties:
- Work with the multi-disciplinary stage 1 and stage 2 engineering resource for domain including the delivery of engineering work and services using an Integrated Project Team structure comprising of members of several disciplines with multiple interfaces with programme leadership, customers and suppliers
- Practice the maintenance and modification engineering processes and procedures in the engineering zonal integration strategy in response to technical developments and operational need.
- Carry out complex technical analyses and investigations, including evaluation and selection of technical options, and prepare reports with suggested recommendations to support the resolution of problems and the improvement of engineering capability.
- Support the development of designs in line with specifications and all quality and technical standards, and carry out design appraisals in assigned zones to ensure all standards are maintained.
- Lead investigations into operational problems or developments and develop and prepare solutions, individually or as a member of a cross-domain team.
- Embody and deliver Lessons learned from the T26 Zonal Engineering Maturity process.
- Work closely with the Engineering Change Manager thus an integrated view is maintained to ensure configuration control of the ZX process (including stage 1 and stage 2 BOM and design artefact alignment).
- Build strong relationships with key stakeholders to successfully discharge the role.

- Except in extraordinary circumstances, execution of the work will be achieved without continual supervision: instead a definition of the task outputs, budget (where relevant) and time-scale constraints will be agreed at the outset.
