Summary: The Principal DevOps Engineer will provide technical leadership to a cross-functional team, focusing on translating architectural designs into actionable tasks and driving data-driven decisions for product teams. The role requires hands-on coding, mentoring, and collaboration within a dynamic and agile environment. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in backend development, particularly with Java and AWS services, and be committed to continuous learning and improvement. This position requires active security clearance and is offered on an umbrella company basis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Translate architectural designs to task backlogs and determine optimal task delivery order.
- Formulate and test hypotheses on technical approaches to diverse problems.
- Define and deliver experimental spikes using cloud-native services and bespoke code.
- Estimate implementation effort for technical tasks.
- Present evidence to support data-driven decisions for product teams.
- Code with maintainability in mind and champion agile best practices.
- Mentor colleagues and collaborate with QAs and Business Analysts.
- Build strong relationships with architects and facilitate problem-solving within the team.
- Contribute to a collaborative and transparent team culture.
Key Skills:
- Proficient in Java/Spring Microservices, AWS Kubernetes, and building REST APIs.
- Experience with Hibernate, Debezium, and messaging technologies like SNS/SQS.
- Familiarity with AWS RDS Postgres, AWS Open Search, and AWS API Gateway.
- Knowledge of CI/CD tools such as Jenkins and version control with GIT.
- Front-end skills in Docker, REACT, GDS Design Kit, Node.JS, and Storybook.
- Hands-on experience with agile software development, TDD, and collaborative development practices.
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new technologies, including legacy systems.
