Summary: The Principal Data Modeler role involves leading the design and governance of a business semantic layer for a major transformation project in a leading financial services client. This senior, hands-on position requires expertise in data modeling to ensure accurate representation of business concepts and compliance with regulatory requirements. The role is pivotal in establishing standards and driving consistency across the enterprise data marketplace. The position offers remote working with occasional site visits in the South West of England.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design of enterprise-grade data models within Snowflake
  • Define and govern business semantic models supporting BI, analytics, and regulatory reporting
  • Establish and enforce modelling standards, naming conventions, and best practices
  • Ensure consistent KPI and metric definitions across business domains
  • Translate complex financial services processes into scalable, governed data structures
  • Act as the central point of contact for data modelling queries and design decisions
  • Support the migration and redesign of Legacy BI and analytics systems
  • Collaborate with data engineers, architects, analysts, and senior business stakeholders
  • Ensure models support auditability, lineage, and regulatory requirements

Key Skills:

  • Proven experience as a Principal/Lead Data Modeler in enterprise environments
  • Strong financial services sector experience (banking, capital markets, insurance, asset management, or payments)
  • Demonstrable experience modelling data for regulatory, risk, finance, or operational reporting
  • Deep expertise in dimensional modelling, data vault, or hybrid approaches
  • Strong hands-on experience with Snowflake
  • Experience designing semantic layers for BI and analytics platforms
  • Track record of defining modelling standards and governance frameworks
  • Ability to work autonomously in a transformation programme environment

Leading Financial Services client is undergoing a major transformation of their BI and analytics landscape. As they modernise the marketplace systems, they are building a centralised enterprise data marketplace to serve as the single source of truth for reporting, analytics, and regulatory insight.

They require a Principal Data Modeler to lead the design and governance of the business semantic layer underpinning this platform. This is a senior, hands-on role focused on defining standards, driving consistency, and ensuring data models accurately reflect the right business concepts - not just technically correct structures.

You will become the central authority for data modelling decisions across the programme.

The role:
