Power Platform Lead Engineer

Posted 1 day ago by Varmoda Tech LLC

Varmoda is seeking an experienced and technically strong Power Platform Lead Engineer to lead enhancement and maintenance of a production Microsoft Power Platform application for a public-sector client. This is a remote role on our technology and application services team. We are looking for a hands-on, self-driven engineer with deep Power Apps development skills, disciplined release practices and the ability to work confidently in a finance-critical application.

The ideal candidate has built and supported Power Apps solutions in production, preferably financial, reconciliation or other calculation-heavy business applications. The role owns technical estimates, solution architecture decisions, release management and regression testing. It requires close collaboration with business users, the Account Manager and teams that support connected legacy systems.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead enhancement and maintenance of a production Power Apps application (canvas and model-driven), including screens, business logic, data connections and user-facing changes.
  • Prepare written technical estimates for each request, covering scope, approach, affected components, testing needs and a not-to-exceed hour ceiling.
  • Maintain the application's data layer (Microsoft Dataverse, SQL Server or SharePoint lists), including delegation limits, security roles, least-privilege access and data loss prevention (DLP) policies.
  • Build and maintain Power Automate flows with explicit error handling, run-history monitoring and failure notifications.
  • Apply Power Platform ALM practices: managed solutions, separate development, test and production environments, Solution Checker reviews, source control, pre-release backups and rollback plans.
  • Design and maintain a regression test suite for financial calculation and reconciliation logic, validate changes against prior reconciled results, and support user acceptance testing.
  • Document and maintain data exchanges with connected upstream or legacy systems, flag changes that could cause data or timing mismatches, and coordinate with those system teams.

Relevant Experience

  • 5+ years of Microsoft application development experience.
  • 4+ years of hands-on Power Apps development in production environments, including both canvas and model-driven apps.
  • Experience supporting financial, accounting, payroll, revenue or reconciliation applications where calculation accuracy is critical.
  • Experience with Power Platform ALM, environment strategy and managed solution deployment.
  • Experience working with applications that integrate with legacy or mainframe systems of record (preferred).
  • Government or public-sector experience (preferred).

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems or a related field.

Skills (Tools and Technology)

  • Power Apps (canvas and model-driven), Power Fx, Power Automate (cloud flows), Microsoft Dataverse.
  • Power Platform admin center, Solution Checker, Power Platform CLI, Power Platform Build Tools for Azure DevOps.
  • SQL Server, T-SQL, Dataverse security roles and business units.
  • Custom connectors, REST APIs, Azure Functions (preferred).
  • Azure DevOps or GitHub for source control and deployment pipelines.
  • Working knowledge of Power BI and SharePoint Online.

Certifications

  • Required: Microsoft Certified: Power Platform Developer Associate (PL-400).
  • Preferred: Microsoft Certified: Power Platform Solution Architect Expert (PL-600); Microsoft Certified: Power Platform Functional Consultant Associate (PL-200).
