Summary: The Interim Planning Solicitor role involves supporting the Head of Legal Services and the Legal Services team in delivering effective legal advice primarily on planning and highway matters. The position requires managing a busy caseload and representing the council in legal proceedings. This is a 12-month assignment based in Bournemouth, with a standard workweek of 37 hours. The role is structured to provide specialist legal input and ensure compliance with relevant legislation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide specialist input to the Service Director and the Head of Legal Services in the delivery and improvement of its services and business strategies
• Represent the council as and when required in all planning & highway legal proceedings
• Deliver clear, consistent and accurate legal advice to officers, members and clients on all matters relating to planning and highway
• Procure external legal assistance when requested to do so
• Take necessary action under the relevant legislation and case law and ensure appropriate professional standards are maintained in line with accepted good practice
• Manage a busy caseload

Key Skills:

• Qualified solicitor or barrister or Chartered Legal Executive
• Up to date knowledge of relevant areas of the law and proceedings
• Extensive post qualification experience in the areas of the law relating to planning
• Demonstrable experience of persuasion and negotiation at a senior level
• Must have ability to draft and complete Section 106 Agreements
• Ability to work on own initiative and represent Legal Services at all levels within the authorities and externally
• Ability to give complex and specialist advice in highly sensitive and pressurised situations
• Ability to deliver pragmatic and cost effective advice and solutions to clients
