Summary: The role of PHP Developer involves leading enhancements and support for large-scale public sector platforms, focusing on building secure, high-performing applications. The position requires collaboration across multi-disciplinary teams to design, develop, and deliver user-centric digital services. Candidates must possess strong PHP and JavaScript skills, along with experience in DevOps practices and modern testing frameworks. Active SC clearance is a prerequisite for this position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead enhancements and support for system upgrades within large-scale public sector platforms
- Build secure, high-performing applications that comply with GDS and accessibility standards
- Develop and maintain APIs to enable integration with internal services & third-party providers
- Write and maintain automated tests, ensuring reliability through integration with CI pipelines
- Maintain deployment workflows using containerisation tools and continuous delivery practices
- Use Git-based workflows to manage source code and collaborate effectively within teams
- Participate in agile delivery: sprint planning, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives
- Conduct code reviews and promote clean coding practices to support knowledge sharing and team improvement
Key Skills:
- Active SC clearance
- Strong in PHP development (especially Drupal 10 & WordPress)
- Experienced use of JavaScript/TypeScript & Node.js
- Testing experience with Cypress & ability to build and maintain automated test suites
- Working knowledge of DevOps practices: Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, and CI/CD pipelines
- Comfortable working across both Front End (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and Back End systems
- Experience with version control systems - Git
- Strong understanding of GDS principles
