Summary: The PfA SEND Officer will coordinate Education Health and Care (EHC) needs assessments for young people aged 14-25 with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) within a local authority in London. This role involves creating high-quality, person-centered EHCPs and ensuring effective service delivery during the transition to adulthood. The position is fully remote and is offered as a 3-month initial contract. The ideal candidate will have experience in local authority settings and a strong understanding of SEND legislation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that all casework is completed to a high standard whilst maintaining accurate records and adhering to local authority policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with service providers and families to ensure that the provision outlined in the EHCP is being delivered effectively and within the statutory timeframe.
  • Support the transition of young people with SEND into adulthood, ensuring a seamless process and the appropriate provision is in place.

Key Skills:

  • Experience of working for a local authority, with a strong understanding of SEND legislation and the PfA framework.
  • Demonstrated ability in dealing with complex cases and managing a demanding caseload.
  • Excellent written communication skills including the ability to draft clear and concise plans.
  • Ability to identify risks and opportunities in service delivery, particularly in relation to PfA transitions, and escalate these to management.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build meaningful relationships with external partners, young people with SEND and their families.
  • Able to provide advice and recommendations within defined policy and procedures to support informed decision making.
