The Role
As Pensions Accountant, you will be responsible for delivering all aspects of Pension Fund accounting and financial reporting, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations and professional accounting standards.
You will provide specialist financial advice to senior stakeholders and support the effective management of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS).
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation and production of Pension Fund Accounts and Annual Reports.
- Support Pension Fund year-end closedown processes.
- Produce high-quality audit working papers and respond to audit queries.
- Complete reconciliations and ensure all Pension Fund transactions are accurately recorded.
- Monitor Pension Fund income, expenditure, budgets, and cashflow.
- Support governance reporting for Pension Committees and Pension Boards.
- Provide financial information for actuarial valuations and IAS19 reporting.
- Deliver financial analysis and advice relating to Pension Fund investments and performance.
- Ensure compliance with LGPS regulations, accounting standards, and Local Authority requirements.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Extensive experience of Pension Fund Accounting within a Local Authority environment.
- Strong experience of Pension Fund closedown activities.
- Proven track record producing Pension Fund Accounts and Annual Reports.
- Experience preparing Pension Fund audit working papers and supporting external audit processes.
- Excellent knowledge of LGPS financial regulations and reporting requirements.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- CIPFA qualification (or equivalent) is advantageous, although relevant LGPS finance experience will also be considered.
