Summary Of The Role
Reporting to the Senior Group Payroll Manager, the Payroll Specialist will provide additional technical and operational capacity to the payroll team for a 6 month fixed term period.
A key initial priority is to support the payroll team with a retrospective review relating to Employer National Insurance Contribution records, including leading on a recalculation, validation and retrospective payroll submission exercise.
The successful candidate will also provide flexible support across other payroll priorities, which may include supporting with ad-hoc payroll compliance related reviews, payroll data validation and supporting on review and implementation of new payroll processes.
The work will flex according to business and payroll requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support payroll projects and remediation activities, including payroll recalculations, validation exercises and corrective actions.
- Apply specialist payroll knowledge across PAYE, National Insurance, RTI and statutory deductions to investigate issues and ensure compliance.
- Review, analyse and validate large volumes of payroll data, ensuring accuracy through reconciliations, quality checks and audit trails.
- Process payroll corrections, support retrospective submissions and ensure compliance with HMRC requirements where applicable.
- Collaborate with Payroll and Finance teams to implement adjustments, manage financial impacts and deliver project outcomes.
- Support payroll process reviews, testing of new controls and continuous improvement initiatives following process changes.
- Provide regular project updates to stakeholders, highlighting progress, risks and resolution plans.
- Effectively manage priorities to meet project milestones, payroll deadlines and statutory requirements.
- Deliver flexible support across payroll operations, projects and ad hoc activities as required during the fixed-term assignment.
Skills And Experienced Required
- CIPP (or similar) qualification desirable
- Working knowledge of Resource Link payroll (not essential, but must have strong experience with payroll software generally)
- Strong payroll experience
- Up to date working knowledge of HMRC requirements, NI legislation, PAYE and RTI
- Strong Excel skills (eg vlookup, pivot table functions) and good Microsoft Office skills generally
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to logically work through payroll issues
- Good time management, planning and communication skills
