Summary: The Oracle Database Administrator role involves creating and maintaining databases across various environments, ensuring data integrity, and implementing database design and policies. The position requires extensive experience with Oracle databases and scripting, with a focus on performance tuning and capacity planning. The role is remote and includes participation in an on-call rotation. Candidates with experience in the insurance domain and Agile methodologies are preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain databases for test, development, and production environments.
  • Analyze, test, and implement physical database design.
  • Document environment and maintain current patches.
  • Ensure data recovery, maintenance, data integrity, and space requirements are met.
  • Audit current environments and provide capacity planning and best practices.
  • Conduct performance assessment and tuning related to the database system.
  • Provide technical knowledge to system administrators, technical managers, developers, and architects.
  • Migrate data and/or databases between different database platforms.
  • Execute database changes during after-hours change windows.
  • Identify and implement automation and/or self-service opportunities.
  • Participate in bi-weekly on-call rotation.

Key Skills:

  • 10+ years' experience with Oracle databases (8+ years acceptable for strong candidates).
  • Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) experience.
  • Scripting experience in shell or Powershell.
  • Previous experience in the insurance industry (nice to have).
  • Source control/Gitlab experience (nice to have).
  • Agile Methodology experience (nice to have).

Description:
Creates and maintains databases for test, development and production environments. Analyzes, tests, and implements physical database design. Documents environment and maintains current patches. Ensures data recovery, maintenance, data integrity, and space requirements for physical database are met through formulation and monitoring of policies, procedures, and standards relating to database management. Audits the current environments, provides capacity planning and best practices for the future production/development/test environments, which may include establishing new standards and procedures. Conducts performance assessment and tuning as related to the database system. Provides technical knowledge working with system administrators, technical managers, developers, and architects. Migrates data and/or databases between different database platforms. Executes database changes during after-hours change windows. Identify and implement automation and/or self-service opportunities to improve current processes. Participate in bi-weekly on-call rotation.

Must haves include:
10+ years' experience with Oracle databases (Could accept 8+ if they are a strong candidate)
Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) experience
Scripting experience shell or Powershell
