Summary: The role of OpenShift Subject Matter Expert (SME) involves leading the upgrade of OpenShift from version 4.13 to 4.18 within a top-tier IT consultancy. Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the OpenShift upgrade, validating platform changes end to end
- Configure and optimise OpenShift clusters for enterprise environments
- Manage application and operator migrations between OpenShift versions
- Collaborate with DevSecOps teams to embed automation and security best practices
Key Skills:
- Extensive hands-on experience with OpenShift 4.x deployments
- Deep familiarity with Kubernetes and container orchestration in large-scale environments
- Proven ability to validate infrastructure components and troubleshoot deployments
- Strong Scripting skills and experience with IaC and CI/CD practices
- Knowledge of key tools and operators including:
- HashiCorp Vault - secrets management
- Red Hat Quay - internal container registry
- Clair - image scanning
- Keycloak - identity and access management
- Istio or OpenShift Service Mesh - microservice communication

You'll join a high-performing technical team focused on modernising and optimising a secure OpenShift platform, ensuring smooth upgrades, robust integrations, and secure configurations.
