Summary: The role of OpenShift Subject Matter Expert (SME) involves leading the upgrade of OpenShift from version 4.13 to 4.18 within a top-tier IT consultancy. The position requires extensive hands-on experience with OpenShift deployments and collaboration with DevSecOps teams to ensure secure and optimized configurations. The role is primarily remote with occasional travel to Lincoln and Newcastle, and it requires active SC clearance or eligibility for it. The contract is for three months and classified as inside IR35.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the OpenShift upgrade, validating platform changes end to end
- Configure and optimise OpenShift clusters for enterprise environments
- Manage application and operator migrations between OpenShift versions
- Collaborate with DevSecOps teams to embed automation and security best practices
Key Skills:
- Extensive hands-on experience with OpenShift 4.x deployments
- Deep familiarity with Kubernetes and container orchestration in large-scale environments
- Proven ability to validate infrastructure components and troubleshoot deployments
- Strong Scripting skills and experience with IaC and CI/CD practices
- Knowledge of key tools and operators including:
- HashiCorp Vault - secrets management
- Red Hat Quay - internal container registry
- Clair - image scanning
- Keycloak - identity and access management
- Istio or OpenShift Service Mesh - microservice communication

A top-tier IT consultancy is seeking an experienced OpenShift Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support the migration from OpenShift 4.13 to 4.18. You'll join a high-performing technical team focused on modernising and optimising a secure OpenShift platform, ensuring smooth upgrades, robust integrations, and secure configurations.
Tech Stack - IaC, CICD, Security tools and Scripting
