Detailed Description From Employer:

We are looking to recruit an Online Tutor to join our BA in Creative Writing (Online) team in the School of Communication to work on the module Publishing Lab: Entrepreneurial Practice. This module will enable students to consider the role of technology on the production and dissemination of written texts in the contemporary world. You will examine intrapreneurial and entrepreneurial practices as used by writers and within the publishing industry. You will also practice the production and practicalities of story artefacts and creative events. These might include book design, zine making, performance, exhibition and screen-based media. The weekly activities will encourage the students to think about and to take part in publishing activities, such as typography, publishing software, binding and materiality, curation, exhibiting and performance; and how they, as post-digital multimodal writers, might inventively participate in the publishing communications circuit.

Online tutors support student learning in collaboration with a Module Leader. They are the first point of contact for students and facilitate students engagement in weekly activities including asynchronous and synchronous interactions, forums, padlets, and other digital tools. You will work closely with the Module Leader to support the delivery of the course and enable students to make the most of their learning through dedicated, timely, and active support. The successful candidate will be vital to the success and vibrancy of our online courses. They are a constant presence in the module, the first point of contact for students’ academic enquiries and supporting their learning activities. The module is primarily asynchronous (not undertaken in real-time): online tutors work flexibly during the week and log in and tend to the activities in the module at multiple points during the day and study week (including weekends) depending on the needs of the students. You will also chair the weekly live webinars, with guidance from the module leader, to support the consolidation of student learning.

Educated to a degree level, or equivalent industry experience, the ideal candidate will have evidence of experience and an established creative writing practice in domains specific to the forms of the module they are applying to. Additionally, you will have excellent communication and digital skills, some teaching experience and the passion and commitment to deliver and excellent online learning experience for students. This is permanent, part-time, 7 hours a week, 31 weeks a year position working during Study Block one and three. The start date for this role is 15 September 2025 working to January 2026, before resuming in May 2026 to September 2026. Due to the online nature of this role, it can be worked remotely, however the successful candidate must be based within the UK, have a reliable internet connection and be able to start on 15 September 2025.
