Summary: BookNook is looking for independent contractors to serve as Online Reading Tutors for K-8 students starting in Fall 2025. Tutors will conduct live online sessions using the BookNook platform, focusing on closing the early-learning gap. This role requires a commitment to maintaining positive relationships with students and creating a supportive learning environment. Applications will be reviewed on an as-needed basis leading up to the summer, with no immediate hiring taking place.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct virtual tutoring sessions using the BookNook platform—no lesson planning required!
• Manage student behavior and engagement throughout sessions
• Create a safe, respectful learning environment
• Maintain positive relationships with students
• Document observations for each session in the session notes

Key Skills:

• Must be at least 18 years old
• Must be based in the U.S. and have a U.S. mailing address
• Knowledge of and experience with reading instruction based in the science of reading
• Ability to build meaningful connections with students to create a motivating and encouraging environment
• Creativity and flexibility to meet students where they are
• Experience teaching/tutoring K-8 students, which may include having a current/previous teaching license, serving as a substitute teacher or teaching assistant, paraprofessional, professor, instructor, and/or tutoring for another tutoring company
• Classroom experience preferred
• Online teaching/tutoring experience preferred
• Completed or enrolled in a teacher credential program preferred
• Access to a computer, webcam, and reliable, high-speed internet connection with a speed of at least 10mbps
