Summary: The Network Monitoring Engineer role is a high-impact, hands-on position focused on the network observability strategy for a national dark fibre rollout. The engineer will design and deploy monitoring solutions, build telemetry pipelines, and develop dashboards to ensure complete network visibility. This position requires senior-level experience in network monitoring within large-scale infrastructure environments. Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and deploy end-to-end monitoring solutions across newly delivered dark fibre infrastructure and OLTs.
  • Build and scale streaming telemetry pipelines (gNMI, gRPC) to provide real-time, low-latency network visibility.
  • Configure, optimize, and tune VictoriaMetrics for high-performance data ingestion and retention.
  • Develop advanced Grafana dashboards to provide actionable operational insights for NOC and engineering teams.
  • Establish baseline performance metrics and define SLA-led alert thresholds across Layer 1-3 network equipment.

Key Skills:

  • Proven senior-level experience in network monitoring or engineering within an ISP or large-scale infrastructure environment.
  • Deep technical expertise with VictoriaMetrics in a production environment.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Nagios, including custom plugins, configuration, and alerting workflows.
  • Proficiency with streaming telemetry tools and protocols such as gNMI, gRPC, Telegraf, or gNMIc.
  • Solid networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLANs, and optical network technologies.

Remote Network Monitoring Engineer - £75K, 6-month FTC | £70,000 - £75,000 We're working with a technology-led connectivity business delivering a major national dark fibre rollout on this exciting opportunity. This is a high-impact, hands-on engineering role where you will take complete ownership of the network observability strategy for a massive infrastructure programme. You will bridge the gap between deployment and operations by building sophisticated streaming telemetry pipelines using VictoriaMetrics and Nagios to ensure 100% network visibility from day one.
