Summary: The Network Monitoring Engineer role is a high-impact, hands-on position focused on the network observability strategy for a national dark fibre rollout. The engineer will design and deploy monitoring solutions, build telemetry pipelines, and develop dashboards to ensure complete network visibility. This position requires senior-level experience in network monitoring within large-scale infrastructure environments. Key Responsibilities:
- Design and deploy end-to-end monitoring solutions across newly delivered dark fibre infrastructure and OLTs.
- Build and scale streaming telemetry pipelines (gNMI, gRPC) to provide real-time, low-latency network visibility.
- Configure, optimize, and tune VictoriaMetrics for high-performance data ingestion and retention.
- Develop advanced Grafana dashboards to provide actionable operational insights for NOC and engineering teams.
- Establish baseline performance metrics and define SLA-led alert thresholds across Layer 1-3 network equipment.
Key Skills:
- Proven senior-level experience in network monitoring or engineering within an ISP or large-scale infrastructure environment.
- Deep technical expertise with VictoriaMetrics in a production environment.
- Strong hands-on experience with Nagios, including custom plugins, configuration, and alerting workflows.
- Proficiency with streaming telemetry tools and protocols such as gNMI, gRPC, Telegraf, or gNMIc.
- Solid networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLANs, and optical network technologies.
