Summary: The Network Engineer - Zabbix Specialist role involves leading the migration of legacy network monitoring tools to a modern Zabbix-based platform for a retail client. This position is focused on the Network Tooling Refresh initiative, ensuring seamless integration within a Cisco network environment. The role requires extensive expertise in Zabbix and encompasses design, development, testing, and implementation tasks. It is a 6-month contract classified as inside IR35 and is fully remote.
Key Responsibilities:
- Refactor existing tools (Cacti & Branch Asset Tracker) into Zabbix
- Configure SNMP-based data collection and visualisation
- Contribute to High-Level Design (HLD)
- Deliver Low-Level Design (LLD) documentation
- Build and configure Zabbix proxies via code
- Update network devices to communicate with Zabbix via SNMP
- Onboard devices into Zabbix and build custom dashboards
- Develop and execute test plans
- Manage change control and deployment
- Provide post-deployment support
- Conduct Knowledge Transfer to BAU (Business-As-Usual) teams
- Provide support documentation for ongoing maintenance

About the role
Our Retail client is seeking a Network Engineer with deep expertise in Zabbix to lead the migration of legacy network monitoring tools to a modern, supported platform. This role supports the Network Tooling Refresh initiative, focused on replacing end-of-life tools with a robust Zabbix-based solution.
You'll be instrumental in designing, developing, and implementing Zabbix to replace Cacti Monitoring and a bespoke Branch Asset Tracker, ensuring seamless integration within a Cisco network environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Tool Migration & Integration
- Refactor existing tools (Cacti & Branch Asset Tracker) into Zabbix
- Configure SNMP-based data collection and visualisation
2. Design & Documentation
- Contribute to High-Level Design (HLD)
- Deliver Low-Level Design (LLD) documentation
3. Development Tasks
