The Resident Engineer will provide hands-on technical support, troubleshooting, design guidance and operational expertise across a large-scale service provider network.
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot network and equipment issues across production and pre-production environments.
- Manage vendor support cases through diagnosis, escalation and resolution.
- Support network design workshops, technical reviews and implementation planning.
- Assess network health, performance, stability and configuration standards.
- Support major network upgrades, maintenance windows, migrations and network changes.
- Develop fault-diagnosis procedures, operating procedures, configuration standards and implementation plans.
- Provide technical guidance, knowledge transfer and training to engineering and operations teams.
- Support best-practice adoption across routing, switching and network operations.
- Act as a subject matter expert for the deployed networking platforms, software and features.
- Produce regular technical reports covering network issues, design activity and resolution status.
Required Experience
- 6+ years of design, implementation and operational experience within large-scale IP or service provider networks.
- Strong Junos CLI experience.
- Hands-on experience with MX, PTX and ACX platforms.
- Strong service provider routing knowledge including:
- TCP/IP and MPLS
- OSPF, IS-IS and BGP
- MPLS-TE, RSVP and LDP
- IPv6 and routing policies
- L3VPN, VPLS and MVPN
- Ethernet switching, 802.1Q, QoS and Class of Service
- Experience with routing protocol migrations, scaling and BGP peering environments.
- Network automation experience using Ansible, YAML and PyEZ.
- Python scripting experience.
- Experience supporting major upgrades, maintenance activities and complex network changes.
- Strong customer-facing, communication and presentation skills, including working with both technical teams and senior stakeholders.
Desirable
Expert-level networking certifications such as JNCIS, JNCIP, JNCIE, CCNP or CCIE.
