Summary: The Network Engineer role involves supporting a large-scale service provider network for a major UK mobile operator, focusing on the IP/MPLS infrastructure that supports mobile data connectivity. The position is fully remote and emphasizes the management and optimization of routing environments, as well as the design and maintenance of interconnects with partner networks. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in operating large-scale IP/MPLS networks and troubleshooting high-throughput traffic environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and support large-scale IP/MPLS service provider networks, ensuring high availability and performance for mobile data traffic
- Manage and optimise BGP (eBGP/iBGP) and IS-IS routing environments, including routing policy and traffic engineering
- Design and maintain external interconnects and peering (NNI) with partners, roaming providers, and enterprise networks
- Support integration between mobile packet core (EPC/PGW) and IP transport networks, including APN and Gi interface connectivity
- Troubleshoot and manage high-throughput subscriber traffic and CGNAT environments, ensuring efficient traffic flow and scalability
Key Skills:
- Strong experience operating large-scale service provider IP/MPLS networks
- Advanced knowledge of BGP (eBGP and iBGP)
- Experience operating IS-IS as an IGP within service provider environments
- Experience with VRF-based network segmentation
- Understanding of traffic engineering and routing policy design
- Experience designing or operating NNI (Network-to-Network Interface) interconnections
- Experience managing external network interconnects and peering relationships
- Knowledge of routing policy, filtering, and traffic engineering for Interconnect environments
- Understanding of how mobile packet core gateways integrate into IP/MPLS networks
