Summary: This role involves collaborating with the Account Executive and Lighting Coordinator to engineer lighting design projects, focusing on small cell colocation opportunities. The Colocation Design Engineer will analyze existing lighting poles, identify alternative locations if necessary, and manage the design, engineering, and project management of colocation jobs in Georgia. The position requires effective communication with internal and external customers and adherence to NEC code for outdoor lighting systems. The candidate will handle multiple projects for government, commercial, and industrial clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with the Colocation Product Manager, the Colocation Construction Coordinator, and others as needed to facilitate an effective small cell implementation according to all communication provider and industry standards.
- Conduct reviews of potential small cell locations in DistView, Google Earth and CSS to determine if they will be a candidate for small cell colocation.
- Complete all colocation engineering related fields in the Varasset workflow management tool.
- Ensure that all labor and materials are charged to the correct DWE for each colocation project and all parties are billed and paid correctly.
- Prepare jobs in a timely manner to satisfy customer's committed date.
- Establish and maintain a working relationship with internal team (sales rep, coordinator, billing, leadership team).
- Verify voltage drop, ampere rating of wire and fuse sizes - Obtain any required permits for projects (DOT, State, City, County, etc.).
- Estimate job cost and order material.
- Verify job sites to determine and minimize all hazards to installation and share this information with construction team.
- Manage multiple projects with an attention to job design detail.
- Verify all construction charges upon completion and reconcile material and other charges as necessary.
- Close jobs in a timely manner and meet monthly compliance requirements.
- Assist other departments with project designs, site visits and projects closeouts when needed.
Key Skills:
- Strong analytical skills.
- Strong communications skills (verbally and in written form) are REQUIRED.
- Ideal candidate will have a background in Transmission, Distribution, or Telecommunication.
- Candidates with "Make Ready work" experience is preferred.
- Candidates with 0-5 years of experience will be considered - co-ops, EOC, internships preferred.
- Former lineman with strong computer skills will be considered.
- Any experience with 4G/5G installations would be a plus but not required.
- Understanding of Pole loading would be good but again not required.
- Proficiency with a computer including the ability to use Microsoft Office.
- Bachelor's degree preferred or 4 plus years of equivalent experience, Bachelor of Science in Engineering desired.
- Ability to build strong relationships at all levels and across organizational groups to include both internal and external customers.

This position will work closely with the Account Executive and Lighting Coordinator to engineer lighting design projects. This position is responsible for analyzing existing lighting poles for possible small cell colocation opportunities. If the lighting pole will not work for colocation, then the Colocation Design Engineer will seek to identify alternative locations. Once a suitable location is found, this individual will design, engineer, estimate, and project manage colocation jobs within the state of Georgia. The candidate must be able to accurately bill communication providers according to individual contracts, correctly engineer job packages, and communicate effectively with internal and external customers in a timely manner. The selected candidate will be responsible for the daily tasks of engineering, designing, and estimating outdoor lighting systems according to the NEC code. This position will require the selected candidate to manage several projects at a time for government, commercial and industrial customers.
