Summary: The Multicast & Content Delivery Specialist role involves supporting a high-profile broadcasting client by leveraging deep expertise in multicast networking and large-scale content delivery. The specialist will diagnose, stabilize, and optimize multicast distribution paths while collaborating with network teams and broadcast operations to enhance technical delivery capabilities. This position requires hands-on engineering and the ability to provide clear, evidence-based recommendations for service improvement. The role is remote with on-site support as needed and requires SC eligibility for clearance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead technical ownership of multicast routing, distribution, performance optimisation and fault resolution.
- Analyse existing content delivery architecture and identify bottlenecks, misconfigurations, or design gaps.
- Design and implement improvements across multicast domains (PIM, IGMP, RP configuration, redundancy models).
- Work with broadcast engineers to ensure content streams follow the correct end-to-end paths with minimal latency.
- Establish monitoring, telemetry and diagnostics dashboards for proactive issue detection.
- Produce technical documentation, runbooks and design artefacts to uplift client engineering capability.
- Provide mentoring to internal teams and support knowledge transfer.
- Support any required change activity, including controlled migrations, configuration uplift and resilience testing.
- Act as the senior technical point for client leadership when assessing service risks and improvement plans.
Key Skills:
- Strong hands-on experience with multicast technologies (PIM-SM/DM, IGMPv2/v3, MSDP, RP configuration).
- Proven background in broadcast media, streaming, IPTV, or live content delivery environments.
- Expertise in routing protocols (OSPF, BGP), network segmentation, high-availability design and traffic engineering.
- Experience with enterprise switching, QoS for live media, and low-latency troubleshooting.
- Ability to interpret traffic flows using tools such as Wireshark, multicast analysers, packet brokers, telemetry platforms.
- Comfortable diagnosing complex production issues in high-pressure, time-sensitive environments.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to explain technical topics to non-technical audiences.
- Knowledge of CDN workflows or edge-distribution platforms.
- Experience of network automation (Python, Ansible).
- Exposure to broadcast standards and media transport protocols.
- Vendor certifications such as CCNP/CCIE (Routing & Switching/Service Provider).
