Summary: The Monitoring SME role involves leading the design, implementation, and optimization of monitoring capabilities within Microsoft Fabric and Azure ecosystems, focusing on Microsoft Purview and Azure monitoring services. The position requires a highly experienced individual to act as a technical authority, providing guidance on best practices for monitoring, compliance, data governance, and security. Occasional travel to London is required, and the role is classified as inside IR35 with an active SC clearance. The candidate will also support operational teams through documentation and training initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the discovery, definition, and implementation of enterprise monitoring solutions across Microsoft Fabric and Azure.
- Implement and optimise Microsoft Purview capabilities including Data Catalogue, Data Lineage, Data Classification, Sensitivity Labels, and Data Loss Prevention (DLP).
- Configure and manage monitoring tools including Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Azure Sentinel, Fabric Capacity Metrics, Monitoring Hub, and Fabric Unified Admin Monitoring (FUAM).
- Ensure effective monitoring integration within Microsoft Fabric and Power BI environments.
- Act as the SME for monitoring, observability, and governance solutions.
- Provide best practice guidance on data security, compliance, and monitoring frameworks.
- Advise stakeholders across technical and non-technical teams.
- Produce and maintain high-quality documentation including Low-Level Designs (LLDs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Develop end-user guides and training materials.
- Deliver knowledge transfer sessions and training to operational teams.
- Support continuous improvement of monitoring and governance processes.
Key Skills:
- Deep hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview, including governance, catalogue, lineage, and DLP.
- Strong expertise in Azure and Microsoft Fabric monitoring tools, including Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Azure Sentinel, Fabric Capacity Metrics, Monitoring Hub, and Fabric Unified Admin Monitoring (FUAM).
- Experience with M365 security technologies and data governance frameworks.
- Strong understanding of data security concepts, including classification, sensitivity labels, and DLP policies.
- Proven ability to configure, administer, and troubleshoot enterprise monitoring solutions.
- Familiarity with advanced workspace monitoring (desirable).
- Microsoft certifications preferred (e.g. DP-600, DP-700 or equivalent Fabric/Azure certifications).
- Ability to learn quickly and apply new concepts in a fast-moving environment.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
