Summary: The Microsoft 365 Technical Lead role is a contract position focused on executing a large-scale tenant-to-tenant migration for a major UK financial services client. The contractor will be responsible for designing and implementing the migration strategy, with a strong emphasis on SharePoint Online and OneDrive. This position requires hands-on expertise in M365 migrations and the ability to operate autonomously under tight timelines. Occasional travel to London and Edinburgh is expected.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and execute end-to-end tenant-to-tenant migration strategy.
- Develop SharePoint Online and OneDrive migration plans.
- Manage Exchange Online transition and identity access considerations.
- Plan migration sequencing and cutover strategies.
- Oversee shared drive and collaboration environment migration.
- Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies.
- Ensure business continuity and user experience during migration.
- Act as the M365 migration subject matter expert within the program.
Key Skills:
- Proven track record in large-scale M365 tenant migrations.

We are supporting a major UK financial services client undertaking a large-scale Microsoft 365 tenant-to-tenant migration following a change of control. This is a delivery-focused contract role for an experienced M365 migration specialist who has personally executed migrations at scale. This is not a governance, advisory, or oversight assignment. We are looking for a contractor who can design the approach and deliver it.
The role: The organisation is moving from one M365 tenant into another using a direct (non-federated) approach, under tight timelines and with limited internal SME bandwidth. You will take ownership of:
- End-to-end tenant-to-tenant migration strategy and execution
- SharePoint Online and OneDrive migration design (mandatory expertise)
- Exchange Online transition
- Identity, authentication and access considerations
- Migration sequencing and cutover planning
- Shared drive and collaboration environment migration
- Risk identification and mitigation
- Protecting business continuity and user experience
You will operate as the definitive M365 migration SME within the programme.
What We Need From You:
- Proven track record delivering large-scale M365 tenant migrations
- Hands-on expertise across: Exchange Online SharePoint Online OneDrive
- Experience migrating thousands of users
- Strong understanding of migration tooling and practical constraints
- Experience defining cutover and sequencing strategies
- Comfortable challenging timelines and assumptions
- Able to operate autonomously without an internal centre of excellence
- Experience within financial services or post-M&A environments is advantageous but not essential.
Contract Details:
- Initial 6-month engagement
- Strong likelihood of extension beyond 12 months
- Target start: 1st April
- Primarily remote with occasional travel to London and/or Edinburgh
