Summary: The Microsoft Fabric Data Engineer will be instrumental in migrating enterprise-scale data platforms from Azure Synapse to Microsoft Fabric, focusing on data governance and management. This hands-on role requires expertise in building and optimizing ETL pipelines while ensuring data quality and lineage. The position is delivery-focused within a fast-paced environment, collaborating with internal teams and client stakeholders. The contract is initially for 3 months with a strong potential for extension.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the migration of existing data pipelines and workloads from Azure Synapse into Microsoft Fabric
  • Build and optimise ETL pipelines using Python, SQL, and PySpark within the Fabric environment
  • Work across OneLake, Data Factory, Power BI, and Microsoft Purview to support end-to-end data workflows
  • Assist with the implementation of Purview for data discovery, lineage, and governance
  • Redesign data models and architectures to support analytics and reporting in Fabric
  • Implement and uphold data quality, governance, and performance best practices
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams and client stakeholders to deliver a smooth migration

Key Skills:

  • 3+ years' experience as a Data Engineer in Azure environments
  • Proven experience working with Azure Synapse and understanding of Microsoft Fabric architecture
  • Strong hands-on experience with Python, SQL, and ETL pipeline development
  • Familiarity with Azure Data Factory, Power BI, Data Lake technologies, and exposure to Microsoft Purview
  • Experience working on data migration or modernisation projects
  • A proactive, problem-solving mindset with the ability to work independently

Microsoft Fabric Data Engineer - Synapse Migration Project

Location: Remote (UK)

Rate: £500 - £600 per day (Outside IR35)

Contract: 3 months initially, with strong potential to extend

iO Associates are partnered with a rapidly scaling data consultancy on a project focused on migrating enterprise-scale data platforms from Azure Synapse to Microsoft Fabric, with an increased emphasis on data governance and management using Microsoft Purview.

You'll play a key role in helping shape a modern Fabric-based data platform, supporting the move away from traditional Synapse architectures while ensuring data quality, lineage, and governance are embedded as part of the migration. This is a hands-on, delivery-focused role within a fast-moving environment.
