Summary: The Mechanical Engineering AI Trainer role involves collaborating with leading AI research labs to develop and evaluate AI models through complex engineering challenges. The position requires crafting advanced engineering problems, authoring solutions, auditing AI outputs, and refining AI reasoning. This unique opportunity allows mechanical engineers to influence the future of AI in understanding various engineering principles. The role is fully remote with flexible hours, catering to those with a strong background in mechanical engineering.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design Challenging Problems — Craft advanced engineering problems across domains like FEA, heat transfer, kinematics, and material science to probe the limits of AI reasoning
- Author Ground-Truth Solutions — Write rigorous, step-by-step technical solutions that serve as benchmarks for AI learning
- Audit AI Outputs — Evaluate AI-generated CAD logic, thermodynamic proofs, and material specifications for accuracy, safety, and compliance with standards like ASME and ISO
- Refine AI Reasoning — Identify flawed reasoning — incorrect force distributions, energy conservation violations, unit errors — and provide structured feedback to improve model performance
- Work Independently — Complete task-based assignments on your own schedule, asynchronously
Key Skills:
- Pursuing or completed a Master's or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field
- Strong foundational knowledge in solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, CAD/CAM, or manufacturing processes
- Able to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and precisely in writing
- High attention to detail — especially with mathematical derivations, unit conversions, and physical system constraints
- No prior AI experience required
- Experience with data annotation, technical evaluation, or quality review workflows (nice to have)
- Proficiency with engineering tools such as SolidWorks, MATLAB, or ANSYS (nice to have)
- Background in applied research or engineering consulting (nice to have)

Mechanical Engineering — AI Trainer
About The Role
We're partnering with the world's leading AI research labs to build smarter, more technically rigorous AI models — and we need mechanical engineers to make it happen. As an AI Trainer, you'll stress-test advanced language models on complex engineering problems, expose their reasoning failures, and help define what engineering-grade AI looks like. This is a rare opportunity to step outside traditional engineering work and directly influence how the next generation of AI understands fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, structural mechanics, and more.
Organization: Alignerr
