Summary: The Mechanical Engineering AI Trainer role involves collaborating with leading AI research labs to enhance AI models through the application of mechanical engineering principles. The position requires designing complex engineering problems and authoring solutions to benchmark AI performance, all while working remotely and independently. Candidates should possess a strong background in mechanical engineering and be able to communicate technical concepts effectively. This role offers flexibility in hours and the potential for ongoing contract work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design Challenging Problems — Create advanced mechanical engineering problems spanning FEA, heat transfer, kinematics, material science, and mechatronics to stress-test AI model performance
  • Author Ground-Truth Solutions — Write rigorous, step-by-step technical solutions that serve as benchmarks for AI learning and evaluation
  • Audit Technical Reasoning — Review AI-generated CAD logic, thermodynamic proofs, and material specifications for accuracy, safety, and compliance with engineering standards (ASME, ISO, etc.)
  • Refine AI Thinking — Identify flaws in AI reasoning and provide structured feedback to improve model outputs

Key Skills:

  • Pursuing or holding a Master's or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related discipline
  • Strong foundational knowledge in one or more of: solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, CAD/CAM, or manufacturing processes
  • Able to communicate complex physical phenomena and technical reasoning clearly and concisely in writing
  • Highly precise when working with mathematical derivations, unit conversions, and physical system constraints
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working independently in an async remote environment
  • No prior AI experience required
  • Experience with data annotation, technical evaluation, or quality assurance workflows (nice to have)
  • Proficiency with engineering tools such as SolidWorks, MATLAB, or ANSYS (nice to have)
  • Familiarity with AI or machine learning concepts (nice to have)

Detailed Description From Employer:

Mechanical Engineering AI Trainer

About The Role

We partner with the world's leading AI research labs to build smarter, more technically rigorous AI models — and we need mechanical engineers to help make it happen. This is a unique opportunity to apply your deep engineering knowledge in a cutting-edge AI context, working remotely on your own schedule. You'll put advanced AI models through their paces across fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, structural mechanics, and more — designing problems that expose the limits of AI reasoning and crafting the gold-standard solutions that help these models improve.

Organization: Alignerr

Type: Hourly Contract
