Summary: The Mechanical Engineering AI Trainer role involves collaborating with leading AI research labs to enhance AI models through expert mechanical engineering knowledge. The position requires designing complex engineering problems, authoring ground-truth solutions, auditing AI reasoning, and improving model thinking. This unique opportunity allows professionals to work remotely while contributing to the advancement of AI in engineering. Candidates should possess a strong background in mechanical engineering or related fields, with no prior AI experience necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design Complex Engineering Problems — Craft advanced, multi-domain problems spanning FEA, heat transfer, kinematics, material science, and mechatronics to rigorously test AI performance
  • Author Ground-Truth Solutions — Develop precise, step-by-step technical solutions that serve as benchmarks for AI learning and evaluation
  • Audit AI Reasoning — Evaluate AI-generated CAD logic, thermodynamic proofs, and material specifications for technical accuracy, safety, and compliance with engineering standards (e.g., ASME, ISO)
  • Identify & Correct Failures — Spot logical flaws in AI reasoning — such as incorrect force distributions, energy conservation violations, or faulty stress analyses — and provide structured feedback to improve model accuracy
  • Improve Model Thinking — Help AI systems develop stronger, more reliable reasoning processes across core mechanical engineering domains

Key Skills:

  • Pursuing or holding a Master's or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field
  • Strong foundational knowledge in one or more of: solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, CAD/CAM, or manufacturing processes
  • Able to communicate complex physical phenomena and technical concepts clearly in written form
  • Detail-oriented with high precision when reviewing mathematical derivations, unit conversions, and physical system constraints
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working independently and asynchronously
  • No prior AI experience required
  • Experience with data annotation, data quality, or evaluation workflows (nice to have)
  • Proficiency in engineering software such as SolidWorks, MATLAB, or ANSYS (nice to have)
  • Familiarity with reviewing or auditing technical documentation (nice to have)
