Summary: The Mechanical Engineering Expert will collaborate with leading AI research teams to enhance language models by stress-testing advanced AI systems in mechanical engineering domains. This role involves designing challenging engineering problems, authoring precise solutions, and auditing AI outputs for technical accuracy. The position offers flexibility to work remotely and on a schedule that suits the expert. Candidates should possess a strong background in mechanical engineering or related fields, with no prior AI experience required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design Challenging Problems — Craft advanced mechanical engineering problems across domains including FEA (Finite Element Analysis), heat transfer, kinematics, material science, and mechatronics to rigorously test AI performance
- Author Ground-Truth Solutions — Develop precise, step-by-step technical solutions and benchmark responses that serve as the standard for AI learning
- Audit AI Outputs — Evaluate AI-generated CAD logic, thermodynamic proofs, and material specifications for technical accuracy, safety, and compliance with engineering standards (e.g., ASME, ISO)
- Improve AI Reasoning — Identify logical errors in AI outputs and deliver structured feedback to improve model quality
Key Skills:
- Pursuing or holding a Master's or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field
- Strong foundational expertise in one or more core areas: solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, CAD/CAM, or manufacturing processes
- Able to communicate complex physical phenomena and technical reasoning clearly and concisely in writing
- Highly detail-oriented when reviewing mathematical derivations, unit conversions, and physical system constraints
- No prior AI experience required — your engineering knowledge is what matters
- Experience with data annotation, data quality, or evaluation workflows (nice to have)
- Familiarity with engineering software such as SolidWorks, MATLAB, or ANSYS (nice to have)
- Background in technical writing or academic publishing (nice to have)

Mechanical Engineering Expert (AI Training)
About The Role
We're partnering with the world's leading AI research teams to make cutting-edge language models smarter, safer, and more technically rigorous — and we need mechanical engineers to help us do it. As a Mechanical Engineering Expert, you'll stress-test advanced AI systems on topics like fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, structural mechanics, and mechatronics. You'll design problems that expose the limits of AI reasoning, author gold-standard solutions, and provide the structured feedback that helps these models think better. This is a rare opportunity to apply your deep technical knowledge to a field that's reshaping the world — on your own schedule, from anywhere.
Organization: Alignerr
