Summary: The Mechanical Engineering Expert will collaborate with leading AI research labs to develop advanced AI models by crafting and evaluating complex engineering problems in various domains. This role requires a strong background in mechanical engineering, with responsibilities including designing problems, authoring solutions, and auditing AI reasoning for accuracy. The position is fully remote, offering flexibility in hours and workload. Key Responsibilities:
- Design Advanced Problems — Craft challenging mechanical engineering problems across domains including FEA, heat transfer, kinematics, and material science to rigorously test AI performance
- Author Gold-Standard Solutions — Write precise, step-by-step technical solutions that serve as benchmarks for AI learning and evaluation
- Audit AI Reasoning — Evaluate AI-generated outputs — including CAD logic, thermodynamic proofs, and material specifications — for technical accuracy, safety, and compliance with standards like ASME and ISO
- Refine Model Thinking — Identify and document reasoning failures such as incorrect force distributions, energy conservation violations, or flawed assumptions, and provide structured feedback to improve AI logic
Key Skills:
- Pursuing or holding a Master's or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field
- Strong foundational knowledge in one or more core areas: solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, CAD/CAM, or manufacturing processes
- Able to communicate complex physical phenomena and technical concepts clearly in written form
- Meticulous attention to detail — especially when reviewing mathematical derivations, unit conversions, and physical constraints
- No prior AI or data annotation experience required
- Prior experience with data annotation, quality evaluation, or technical review workflows (nice to have)
- Familiarity with engineering software such as SolidWorks, MATLAB, or ANSYS (nice to have)
- Experience reviewing or writing technical documentation to industry standards (nice to have)
