This unique opportunity allows professionals to influence the development of AI systems used globally by engineers and researchers. The role is fully remote and offers flexible working hours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design Challenging Problems — Craft advanced mechanical engineering problems across domains like FEA, heat transfer, kinematics, fluid mechanics, and material science to rigorously stress-test AI performance
  • Author Ground-Truth Solutions — Write precise, step-by-step technical solutions and benchmark responses that AI models learn from and are evaluated against
  • Audit AI Reasoning — Evaluate AI-generated outputs including CAD logic, thermodynamic proofs, and material specifications for technical accuracy, safety, and compliance with engineering standards
  • Identify & Correct Failures — Pinpoint logical errors in AI reasoning and provide structured feedback to improve model performance
  • Work Independently — Complete task-based assignments asynchronously on your own schedule

Key Skills:

  • Pursuing or holding a Master's or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field
  • Strong foundational knowledge across core areas such as solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, CAD/CAM, or manufacturing processes
  • Able to communicate highly technical concepts and complex physical phenomena clearly and concisely in writing
  • High attention to detail when checking mathematical derivations, unit conversions, and physical system constraints
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and comfortable working independently
  • No prior AI experience required
  • Prior experience with data annotation, data quality assurance, or evaluation systems (nice to have)

Detailed Description From Employer:

Mechanical Engineering Expert (AI Training)

About The Role

We're looking for mechanical engineering experts to help train and evaluate cutting-edge AI models. Your deep technical knowledge will directly shape how AI understands and reasons through complex engineering problems — from fluid dynamics and thermodynamics to structural mechanics and mechatronics. This is a unique opportunity to move beyond traditional engineering work and leave a lasting mark on the next generation of AI systems used by engineers, researchers, and innovators worldwide.

Organization: Alignerr

Type: Hourly Contract

Location: Remote

Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

What You'll Do

  • Design Challenging Problems — Craft advanced mechanical engineering problems across domains like FEA (Finite Element Analysis), heat transfer, kinematics, fluid mechanics, and material science to rigorously stress-test AI performance
  • Author Ground-Truth Solutions — Write precise, step-by-step technical solutions and benchmark responses that AI models learn from and are evaluated against
  • Audit AI Reasoning — Evaluate AI-generated outputs including CAD logic, thermodynamic proofs, and material specifications for technical accuracy, safety, and compliance with engineering standards (e.g., ASME, ISO)
  • Identify & Correct Failures — Pinpoint logical errors in AI reasoning — such as incorrect force distributions, energy conservation violations, or invalid boundary conditions — and provide structured feedback to improve model performance
  • Work Independently — Complete task-based assignments asynchronously on your own schedule
