Summary: The Mainframe z/OS Systems Programmer role involves advanced systems administration to support mainframe applications and infrastructure for the Railroad Commission of Texas. The position requires coordination of daily system administration tasks, including configuration, support, and user account management. The programmer will also provide technical support and lead projects impacting the z/OS platform. This role is essential for maintaining the performance and reliability of the agency's mainframe systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine system administration functions including security administration, performance monitoring, and system maintenance.
- Support data entry and control work processes, oversee mainframe operations, and collaborate with various IT teams.
- Provide primary support as a subject matter expert for z/OS operating systems and related components.
- Offer end-user support for assigned Independent Software Vendor (ISV) products.
- Administer and support SCLM, CICS, and IMS.
- Diagnose platform and software issues, conducting root cause analysis.
- Analyze performance issues and provide recommendations for capacity planning.
- Support technical consultation and inquiries from other IT teams.
- Lead internal team projects or participate in project teams impacting the z/OS platform.
- Assist with maintaining and providing technical support for Mainframe Production Control and Support Jobs.
Key Skills:
- 5+ years of experience with z/OS Systems Programming.
- 5+ years of experience with JES2, z/OS Unix System Services (OMVS), and Storage Management Subsystem (SMS).
- 2+ years of experience with REXX.
- 3+ years of experience with performance monitoring and analysis.
- Experience with Informatica Power Exchange Administration is preferred.
- Knowledge of z/OS operation, security, networking, and automated job scheduling software.
- Experience with TLS configuration and SCLM administration is preferred.

- Experience with Informatica Power Exchange Administration for Change Data Capture processing using mainframe data sources and targets (i.e., IMS and VSAM) a plus.
WORKER SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Provide primary support as the subject matter expert for z/OS operating systems and system components; provide direct technical support as needed in the planning, implementation and testing of releases, upgrades, or changes to z/OS operating system, network, and component software.
- Provide end user support for assigned Independent Software Vendor (ISV) products such as BlueZone.
- Provide primary administration and end user support for SCLM.
- Provide input and recommendations for hardware capacity planning.
- Provide primary administrative support for CICS and IMS .
- Diagnose platform, software and related product issues and follow up with root cause analysis.
- Analyze performance issues and provide input and recommendations for capacity planning.
- Provide input and recommendations for system-wide performance tuning to meet required levels of service.
- Provide input and recommendations for system parameters and system libraries management.
- Provide support for technical consultation and inquiries from the other IT technical teams.
- Provide support as technical lead on internal team projects or participate on project teams that impact the z/OS platform.
- Provide support for Integration-testing new products with existing applications and user procedures.
- Assist with maintaining and providing technical support for Mainframe Production Control and Support Jobs and monthly Mainframe Job Scheduler.
