Summary: We are seeking a seasoned Mainframe Storage Engineer to support and enhance our IBM DS8K storage infrastructure in a z/OS environment. The role involves hands-on administration, planning, and implementation of storage solutions, focusing on performance, reliability, and disaster recovery. This is a fully remote contract position. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in mainframe storage environments and IBM DS8K systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as an individual contributor on transformational tasks, critical issues, and continuous improvement of the enterprise storage environment.
- Lead IBM DS8K mainframe storage administration, with hands-on experience in integration projects.
- Oversee all aspects of the IBM DS8K storage environment, including sizing, forecasting, and configuration.
- Plan, design, and implement storage solutions with minimal disruption to business operations, including back-out procedures and execution coordination.
- Work with DASD and IBM storage environments in a z/OS operating system.
- Contribute to Disaster Recovery planning, configuration, and testing at regular intervals.
- Perform daily storage management tasks, including product upgrades and configuration.
- Review, approve, and coordinate storage-related changes.
- Possess knowledge of third-party storage management products and reporting tools.
- Execute all backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and related capabilities.
- Manage volume space and capacity efficiently.
- Evaluate capacity utilization, initiate projects to address excesses and shortages, and report findings to management.
- Maintain up-to-date documentation of the storage environment.
Key Skills:
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in a mainframe storage environment.
- Expert knowledge of IBM DS900 storage arrays, including SMS/Client routines and all configuration settings of the DS8K.
- Proficiency in SMS within an IBM mainframe environment.
- Experience with SMPE or z/OSMF.
