Summary: The Mainframe Programmer/Developer role involves coordinating daily mainframe system administration functions, supporting data entry/control processes, and collaborating with various IT teams to ensure smooth operations. The position requires expert-level knowledge in z/OS Systems Programming and includes responsibilities such as performance monitoring, capacity planning, and technical support for system upgrades. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with z/OS and related technologies, as well as a strong background in mainframe operations. This role offers flexibility with remote work options or a Texas-based location.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinating daily mainframe system administration functions (configuration, break/fix support, user account creation/support).
- Routine system administration tasks such as security administration, performance monitoring, and system maintenance.
- Supporting data entry/control processes, coordinating mainframe operations at the State's Consolidated Data Center Services (DCS).
- Collaborating with Network Administration, Customer Support, and Application Development teams to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Supporting Informatica Power Exchange Administration for Change Data Capture processing using IMS/VSAM (preferred).
- Applying expert-level knowledge as a Mainframe z/OS Systems Programmer to support both legacy systems and the Mainframe Transformation Team.
- Serving as subject matter expert for z/OS operating systems and components.
- Providing technical support for planning, implementation, and testing of releases, upgrades, or changes to z/OS OS, network, and software.
- Administering ISV products (e.g., BlueZone) and SCLM.
- Performing capacity planning and making hardware recommendations.
- Providing CICS and IMS administrative support.
- Diagnosing and resolving platform/software issues with root cause analysis.
- Conducting system-wide performance tuning and parameter management.
- Supporting technical consultations for other IT teams.
- Leading or participating in internal projects affecting the z/OS platform.
- Performing integration testing of new products with existing applications.
- Maintaining and supporting Mainframe Production Control and Job Scheduling.

- 5+ years Experience with z/OS Systems Programming
- 5+ years Experience with JES2, z/OS Unix System Services (OMVS), Storage Management Subsystem (SMS)
- 3+ years Experience with TSS (Top Secret Security)
- 3+ years Experience with performance monitoring and initial performance issue analysis
- 2+ years Experience with REXX
