Summary: The Mainframe Network Engineer is responsible for architecting, deploying, and managing mainframe network environments, ensuring optimal performance and security. This role involves troubleshooting network issues, implementing security controls, and supporting high availability and disaster recovery efforts. The engineer will also maintain documentation and collaborate with cross-functional teams for system integration and upgrades.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Architect, deploy, and manage mainframe network environments (VTAM, SNA, TCP/IP, DVIPA/DDVIPA, Sysplex Distributor, HiperSockets).
  • Monitor and analyze network performance using OMEGAMON, RMF, IBM NetView, Wireshark, SolarWinds.
  • Troubleshoot performance issues, connectivity problems, and protocol mismatches across VTAM/TCP-IP environments.
  • Implement security controls including RACF, IP filtering, AT-TLS, IPSEC, VPN, and intrusion detection.
  • Support high availability and disaster recovery (failover, backups, system resilience).
  • Maintain documentation (network diagrams, SOPs, incident/change logs).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams for integration, upgrades, and issue resolution.

Key Skills:

  • 15+ years of hands-on experience in mainframe network engineering.
  • Strong expertise in z/OS, Parallel Sysplex, VTAM, TCP/IP, and SNA.
  • Deep knowledge of TCP/IP, SNA, VTAM, DVIPA/DDVIPA, HiperSockets, Sysplex Distributor.
  • Experience with monitoring/troubleshooting tools: OMEGAMON, RMF, IBM NetView, Wireshark.
